Good question! As Memoir Writing Ink is not a registered charity, we are not legally entitled to collect donations. We are, however, legally entitled to 'sell' a service/product (in this case, the judging of stories and an e-anthology), and then to choose to donate the proceeds to Amy's Living Legacy. In other words, as far as the government is concerned, this is a purchase rather than a donation.
